What is country code top level domain?

Country Code Top Level Domain also known as ccTLD is an Internet top-level domain.

ccTLD is normally reserved for a country or sovereign state.

KeNIC was established through the help of the CCK and so is charged with the management and the administration of the dot ke domain name.

It operates in 3R model of domain management and that is Registry,Registrars & Registrants thus it does not directly register .KE domain names but assigns the task to its licensed registrars.

KeNIC is nonprofit and It’s incomes is earned from minimal fees. Normally from domain names. It also employs few staff to minimize costs and maintains an internship program. CCK also provides support to the registry.

Functions of KENIC

Below are the core functions of the registry.

1. Provide name service for all .ke and ensure that the database is secure and stable.
2. Administration of the .ke ccTLD and it’s Second Level Domains.
3. Ensure a cost effective administration of the .ke ccTLD and it’s sub domains.
4. Trustee for the .ke country code top level domain.
5. Become the .ke domain administrative and technical contact as was delegated in its founding in 2003.
6. Maintain and promote the operational stability and utility of the dot ke ccTLD.

Obligations to ICANN

It has the following to The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

1. Abide by all the global ICANN policies.
2. Allow ICANN to access .ke updated zone files and registration data.
3. Continuously maintain a website at all times with all the registration information of domains.
4. Notify ICANN of any change to the contact information about the dot ke domain names.
5. Meet all its financial obligations to ICANN
