Backing up your website files and databases is one of the most important tasks you should undertake. cPanel makes it easier for you to backup and\/restore your entire site, or do a partial backup\/restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this article we\u2019ll see how to backup and restore a website in cPanel. We will talk about taking a Full Website Backup, Partial Website Backup, Email backup & databases backup. Partial backup allows you to backup and restore home directory, databases, email forwarders and email filters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can backup and restore a website in cPanel entirely or partially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Backup the entire website.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
  1. Log into cPanel<\/a>.<\/li>
  2. In the search box in your cPanel, type \u201cBackup\u201d \u2013 without the quotes of course.<\/li>
  3. In the Files section, click on the Backup icon.<\/li>
  4. From the page that appears, under Full Backup section, click on Generate\/ Download a Full Website Backup.<\/li>
  5. On the next page, select the Home Directory option from the Backup Destination drop-down menu.<\/li>
  6. Email Address textbox allows you to specify the email address you wish to use to receive a notification on completion.<\/li>
  7. \u201cDo not send email notification of backup completion.\u201d Lets you \nspecify whether you want to receive a notification on backup completion.<\/li>
  8. Click on Generate Backup.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    2. Backup and restore home directory Only.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Backup home directory<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
    1. Once you have logged into your cPanel, locate and click on Backup as described above.<\/li>
    2. Navigate to Partial Backups section.<\/li>
    3. Click on Home Directory button.<\/li>
    4. Your browser should prompt that a new file file will be downloaded.<\/li>
    5. Click Yes\/Ok.<\/li>
    6. Wait for the download to complete.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Restore home directory<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
      1. Under Partial Backups section, locate \u201cRestore a Home Directory Backup\u201d<\/li>
      2. Click on Browse button to select a backup file from your computer.<\/li>
      3. Click on Upload and wait for the upload to finish.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        Backup And Restore MySQL Databases in cPanel.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

        How to backup MySql Databases in cPanel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
        1. Under Partial Backups section, locate \u201cDownload a Mysql Database Backup.\u201d <\/li>
        2. All your website\u2019s databases will be listed.<\/li>
        3. Click on the database you wish to backup and your browser should launch a download. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          You can also use phpMyAdmin to backup MySql databases in cPanel. You can read on <\/strong><\/em>How to export a MySql database using phpMyAdmin<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

          How to restore MySql Databases in cPanel <\/h3>\n\n\n\n
          1. Under Partial Backups section, locate and click on \u201cRestore a MySQL Database Backup.\u201d<\/li>
          2. Click on Browse button to select a backed up database from your computer.<\/li>
          3. Click on upload button and wait for the restoration to complete. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            How to Backup Email Forwarders.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
            1. Under Partial Backups section, locate and click on \u201cDownload to Backup Email Forwarders.\u201d<\/li>
            2. Your domain and all its subdomains will be should be listed here.<\/li>
            3. Click on the domain or subdomain you want to do a backup for.<\/li>
            4. Your browser should automatically start a download.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              How to restore Email Forwarders.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
              1. Under Partial Backups section, locate \u201cRestore Email Forwarders.\u201d<\/li>
              2. Click on Browse button to select a backed up file from your computer<\/li>
              3. Click on Upload button<\/li>
              4. Wait until the restoration finishes.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
